This site is not about music as you might think. Well, the contents are music
related, but its raison d'être is to serve as a sandbox for my .NET projects.
The earliest version of this site came to life in 1995, where everything was written
in HTML. Then ASP came around, with MS Access database used as the source
of data. Back then, it was called the French Music Database, or FMDB for short,
as
pretty much every recording in the database was french. The site resided at
www.aplmusique.com until now. Then Microsoft came up with ASP.NET, and FMDB
became FMDB.NET (.NET framework 1.1), using mySQL as the database. In its
current incarnation, this site is written VB.NET 2.0, AJAX with SQL Server as the
database.
Overtime, over 5,500 recordings were added to the database. These are from
my personal music collection. The majority of the recordings are in French,
but you'll also find a lot of dance/pop CDs here as well. As the site
continues to develop, there will be more data and other features added. |
